M249 SAW – 50 Rounds

The M249 SAW, short for Squad Automatic Weapon, is where the session starts. It is the American adaptation of the Belgian FN Minimi and has been the light machine gun of choice for U.S. forces for decades.

Chambered in 5.56mm and fed from a linked belt, the SAW is lighter and faster to handle than the heavier guns that follow, which makes it the right place to get comfortable with sustained automatic fire. Your range officer walks you through grip, stance, and how to control the gun before you ever touch the trigger. M240 Bravo – 40 Rounds

The M240 Bravo is the next step up.
